About the Island

Introduction To Antigua


Antigua, also known as 'Wadadli' meaning 'our own', is the largest of the Leeward Islands. The circumference is roughly 54 miles and its area is 108 square miles. The island is the most developed of the Leeward Islands and is prosperous due to its upscale tourism industry, offshore banking, gambling and education services.

Its people are of mixed origins, though primarily of African descent. Temperatures range from 24 Centigrade to 29 Centigrade, though noticably cooler in the hills. The rainy season is from July to October. Driest months are January to April.

 Although Antigua has earned a great reputation as a classic Caribbean holiday with its 365 white sand beaches, comfortable hotels, great watersports, there's even more fun to be had! Antigua's activities include rainforest canopy tours, diving, offroad tours as well as its fascinating and central place in recent Caribbean history through visits to the National Parks such as at English Harbour & Nelson's Dockyard.
