Barbados - Getting Here

	Barbados is well served by international and regional carriers so getting here is no problem. Barbados is served by British West Indian Airlines (BWIA), British Airways (BA), American Airlines (AA) Air Canada (AC), Canadian Airlines and Air Jamaica. Approximate flight times: From Barbados to Toronto-Canada is 4 hours, to Miami is 3 hours 30 minutes, to New York is 5 hours, to London is 7 hours 30 minutes and to Los Angeles is 9 hours. British Airway's Concord flies to London in 4 hours.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:
You will need a valid passport unless you are a Canadian or U.S. citizen; citizens of these two countries must produce valid photo ID and a birth certificate and a stay of 3 months is permitted. Visas are required for citizens from: the People's Republic of China, Taiwan, Pakistan, the non-Commonwealth countries of Africa and all South American Countries except Argentina, Brazil and Venezuela. You will also need a return ticket.

AIRPORT:
Grantley Adams International Airport (BGI) is 30 minutes drive from Bridgetown. There is a taxi stand outside of the arrivals hall and there is a billboard showing the taxi fares recommended by government to various areas. Study this board and agree the appropriate fare with the taxi driver before setting out on your journey. When leaving allow sufficient time to get to the airport. There is a Departure Tax of BD$25.00.

SEA PORT:
The Passenger Teminal at the Deep Water Harbour in Bridgetown is the point at which vessels may enter and be cleared. There are several suitible spots to tie up to: The Careenage, the Shallow Draft (permission necessary) and you can drop anchor in Carlisle Bay (outside of the Marine Park). Be aware that there are marine wildlife reserves; no craft may be moored in such areas.

AIRLINE BOOKING TIPS:
Most bookings are between November and March and consequently consequently air fares and room rates are at their highest. Book as early as possible to avoid disappointment - Barbadians travelling home are well aware of this. You are also more likely to get exactly the accomodation you want. Outside of this period air fares are generally lower but watch out for the important crop-over festival that runs through July and into the beginning of August; many Barbadians who live overseas return for this festival and bookings go up. Again, if you are planning to visit at this time of year, book as early as possible otherwise you may miss out on an amazing month of festivities.
