national parks bookThe British Virgin Islands National Parks

The National Parks Trust works to conserve, manage and promote natural and cultural areas in ways that will contribute to the improvement in the quality of life in the British Virgin Islands.

The British Virgin Islands is a collection of over fifty islands, rocks and cays, many uninhabited by man. The tranquillity and unspoilt nature that has attracted visitors to this British Territory has also made it a haven for plant and animal life.

Remnants of a primeval rainforest survive in the mountains of Tortola and support rare and migrant bird life. Thousands of seabirds nest on the numerous offshore cays, some bordered by sheer cliffs, others strewn with gigantic boulders. Humpback whales migrate through crystal clear waters and mate here annually. Endangered sea turtles nest on secluded beaches and rare species of lizards flourish on the dry rocky slopes.

The territory's diverse wildlife is protected in our national parks, along with historic and prehistoric structures and artifacts. In addition to offering a glimpse of our fascinating natural and cultural heritage the parks provide a special place to relax and get away from it all. From strenuous hikes through spectacular scenery to a leisurely swim in an exotic cove, the national parks have something for everyone.
