Peter Island

This island was named after St. Peter and is only 1.7 square miles (2.72 sq. km) in area. Its unspoiled 1,800 acres offer unspoiled seclusion and considerable luxury at the famous Peter Island Resort & Yacht Club. There are two restaurants, both good - Tradewinds Restaurant and Deadman's Beach Bar & Grill. There are excellent beaches at Big Reef Bay, Boater's Beach, Honeymoon Beach, White Bay and Deadman's Bay. There are anchorages at Peter Island Yacht Club, Deadman's Bay, Salt Island and at the wreck of the RMS Rhone. When not diving, there is tennis, hiking, biking, deep-sea fishing, sailing (of course!) , windsurfing and seaplane tours .

One of Peter Island's tiny neighbours, Dead Chest Island, is the subject of an interesting tale: Blackbeard, perhaps the most infamous of all pirates, had a falling out with 15 of his men and marooned them with a bottle of rum and their sea chests for company. Other than the bottle, no creature comforts existed back then for them, unfortunately.

Today you will find Peter Island and its surroundings far less hostile. Out and about you are likely to encounter only a multitude of birds and the odd, docile iguana.
