By Air
St. Vincent and Bequia both have modern airstrips with night landing equipment allowing more flexible flight schedules. There are small air strips on Canouan, Mustique and Union Island. The surrounding islands of Barbados, St. Lucia, Martinique and Grenada are served from international destinations by Air Canada, American Airlines, Air France, Caribbean Airlines and British Airways, and as well as seasonal charter services. LIAT provide scheduled services whilst SVG Air, TIA2000 and Air Mustique are available for charter to St. Vincent and the Grenadine Islands from these international airports. Grantley Adams Airport in Barbados has a help desk in the arrivals hall open from 1:00PM to 8:00PM specifically to assist passengers making connections to St. Vincent and the Grenadine islands. An international airport is due for completion in St. Vincent in 2011, allowing intercontinental flights, and will greatly open up access to St. Vincent & The Grenadines. Entry Requirements
You will need a valid passport unless you are a British, Canadian or U.S. national; citizens of these three countries must produce valid photo ID and a birth certificate and a stay of 6 months (at the discretion of the Immigration Department) is permitted. Visas are required by nationals of the following countries: Dominican Republic, Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, The People’s Republic of China, Iraq, Iran and Nigeria. You will also need a return ticket.
Departure Taxes
Airport Departure Fees
Visitors leaving St. Vincent & The Grenadines by air are required to pay the following –
- EC $40(around US$17) – a good idea is to stuff EC$40 into your ticket wallet at the beginning of your stay, so you don’t get caught out without the right change/currency on your departure!
Visitors remaining on island for less than 24 hours are not exempt from paying the departure taxes, only in-transit
By Sea
St. Vincent & The Grenadines are popular with super yachts and cruise ships (the latter visits the Cruise Ship Wharf & Terminal in Kingstown, St. Vincent) and have long been seen as ideal for cruising – virtually all the islands are in sight of one another, and the islands have a long-established boat culture. Ferries connect all the islands too, and you can find the ferry schedules on this page. If you are cruising, there are, of course, regulations of which you should be aware before you arrive:
Visiting yachts arriving in St Vincent territorial waters must proceed to a port of entry to clear in before stopping in any other port or anchorage.
With Q flag hoisted, one should dock or anchor in the port of entry and the captain only should go ashore. Three crew lists, clearance from previous port, passports and ship’s papers will be needed. Clearance must also be done with the port authorities, customs and immigration.
One must clear out at one of the official ports. For southbound boats, formalities are simplest at Clifton on Union Island where one can clear customs in the port, but for immigration one has to walk to the airport, which is very close.
All persons require a valid passport and are normally permitted to stay for up to 6 months, providing they have funds to cover their stay.
Visas are required by nationals of the following countries: Dominican Republic, Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, The People’s Republic of China, Iraq, Iran and Nigeria.
Firearms must be declared on arrival, and can be sealed on board, but if a yacht has no suitable locker, the firearms will be held in the custody of customs or police until departure.
Spear fishing equipment is not allowed.
A yacht may stay up to one year subject to immigration requirements provided customs is satisfied that it is a genuine visiting yacht.
A cruising permit will be granted by customs or Port Department on clearing in, if they are satisfied that the voyage is for cruising purposes only.
Overtime fees for customs are payable outside of working hours, EC$38.10 Monday to Saturday, EC$55.80 Sundays and holidays. An entry tax of EC$10 per person is payable except for children under 12.
Fees are payable by yachts that are chartering, and are not locally based, as follows: For bareboat charters, up to 30 feet, a monthly licence of EC$60 or annual licence of EC$600, for 31-50 feet, EC$100 per month and EC$1,000 per year, and for bareboats over 51 feet, EC$140 per month and EC$1,4000 for an annual license.
For crewed charter yachts (not locally based), the licence fee is EC$4 per foot per month, or EC$30 per foot per year.
Locally based charter yachts pay approximately half these licence fees.
A cruising tax of EC$5 per person per day or part thereof is payable for all charters. Cruising yachts do not pay these licence fees.
There is a EC$50 charge for a first night on a mooring at Mustique and EC$25 for subsequent nights.
Ferries
There are frequent ferry services between the islands. A schedule of the various services lies below:
|
Four motor vessels provide scheduled inter-island service. It it suggested that you arrive no later than 15 minutes prior to scheduled departure. Schedule is subject to change due to weather and other local conditions. Visitors should consult their hotelier for the latest information.
