 | Mount Gimie
The tallest of St. Lucia's not inconsiderable hills, Mount Gimie looks, and is, imposing. Rising steeply to 3118 ft (950m), it reminds one of something out of The Lost World. St. Lucia is very much a volcanic island, and Mount Gimie is the largest monument to the island's fiery origins. | | Gros Piton
The larger of two of St. Lucia's most memorable landmarks (in the background), Gros Piton rises straight out of the sea at a nail-bitingly steep angle to a height of 2618 ft (798m). Both Gros Piton and its smaller sibling Petit Piton (foreground) must be seen to be believed - what is even more improbable is that you can actually climb them! Definitely not for those who are afraid of heights and a guide is absolutely mandatory, of course. | | Petit Piton
There is really nothing petit about this mountain at all, rising out of the Caribbean Sea to 2438 ft (743m) and, as you can see, are regularly touched by cloud. Both Petit Piton and its larger brother Gros Piton stand like sentinels over the Caribbean sea and are both arguably St. Lucia's most visually impressive natural wonders. | | Anse-La-Raye
Home of reputedly the best weekend fish-fry in St. Lucia, this traditional fishing village has gained a great reputation for its Friday night fish-frying festivities. There's more to it than fish, of course, with everything from lobster to shrimp to octopus. Plenty drink, plenty food, reasonably priced, so it's no surprise that you can find quite a crowd down there at the end of every week! | | Vigie Beach
A beautiful beach just north of the Capital, Castries, Vigie Beach is a little spot of paradise that's within easy reach. If you are arriving in St. Lucia by small aircraft at George F. Charles Airport, you'll get a window seat view of it as your flight taxis to the terminal! | | Government House, Castries
Take a stroll in St. Lucia's Capital, Castries and you will find some interesting architecture, including Government House... | | Marigot
St. Lucia is fortunate to possesses beautiful white sand beaches - many of the island's volcanic neighbours do not. It also has some excellent natural harbours, the most famous of which is at Marigot Bay. Portions of the film Doctor Doolittle were filmed here - the bay is idyllic and one of the best natural harbours in the whole of the Caribbean. Well worth a visit, by boat or by car. |
